Domestic Violence
Resource Prosecutor

Domestic Violence is a pervasive societal problem that has a myriad of effects on the wellbeing of our population as a whole. In the past few decades, we have come to understand the importance of identifying the particular issues in domestic violence situations. Because of societal and individual pressures, victims of domestic violence often choose not to cooperate with prosecution efforts. Nevertheless, batterer accountability has been recognized as an extremely important component of the effort to break the increasingly potent wheel of power and control (Power & Control Link) Batterer accountability at the misdemeanor level has been linked to reduced domestic homicide rates and reduced recidivism. Alternatively, we know that domestic violence over time has the tendency to become increasingly frequent and violent if left unchecked.

This DVRP position is funded as part of a larger multiple agency STOP grant supervised by the Office of the State Court Administrator. Our DVRP is part of a growing network of DVRPs around the country and a national movement to put one such prosecutor in every state. We are creating resources, conducting trainings and facilitating coordination with law enforcement and other agencies in order to assist prosecutors in handling domestic violence prosecutions.

The DVRP is also be available to individually help Missouri prosecutors address domestic violence related issues. We are looking forward to hearing from you.
